Apache – Installing on Server 2012

Apache is the worlds most used web server. In 2010 there were 159 Million Apache web servers in the world. Often Apache is installed on Unix systems like Solaris on carrier grade hardware or Enterprise version of Linux but of course Apache can be installed on Windows and the current version. Additionally if you still have Netware boxes Apache is so cross platform it will install onto Novell Netware. We will demonstrate for you here, in this example, installing onto Microsoft Windows Server 2012. The current MSI version is 2.2.5 and we take this tour. The MSI installer will prompt for the server name during the install, so we do not have to set this after the install has completed.

If we choose the default to install as a service , then we can control the service either through the system tray icon or through the 2012 Tiles. The installation directory is c:Program Files (x86)Apache Software FoundationApache2.2 . We can see this in the ServerRoot directive of the httpd.conf

Note that the paths statement still use forward slashes even though this is Windows
